The Ebonyi State government has announced that it has secured approval from the federal government to inaugurate Flight Operations at the International Airport in Onueke.

The airport will be named after President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Senior special assistant to the governor on Aviation and technology, Mrs. Obianuju Alo, made this announcement while speaking to newsmen in Abakaliki.

The inauguration of the airport is expected to boost business activities in the state, with two flights scheduled to land every week, one from Abuja and another from Lagos.

The airport is set to open up the state to business opportunities and encourage investors to come to Ebonyi and do their business.

It is hoped that the airport will help Ebonyi State to export agricultural products to the entire world, which will bring prosperity to the state and its people.

In addition to the inauguration of the airport, six persons per Local Government Area have been approved by the state government to be scheduled to board the test flight from Abuja and Lagos, with the cost of tickets being borne by the State Government.

The decision to name the airport after President Muhammadu Buhari has not been explained by the Ebonyi State government.

However, it is not uncommon for airports to be named after important political figures or individuals who have contributed significantly to the development of an area or the country as a whole.
