X has announced the closure of its feature called Circles following user reports of glitches. Circles is a privacy-focused tool that allows users to send posts to a select audience.
The feature, similar to Instagram’s Close Friends stories, was launched in August 2022 when the platform was still called Twitter.
However, in April, a software glitch exposed private Circle posts to unintended recipients, causing privacy concerns.
X addressed the issue and fixed the bug, but it seems that the problems persisted.
As a result, X has decided to shut down Circles by October 31, 2023.
After this date, users will no longer be able to create new posts limited to their Circle or add people to their Circle.
However, they will still be able to remove people from their Circle by unfollowing them.
The decision to close Circles has not been explained by X.
