Xabi Alonso is reportedly planning a major overhaul of Real Madrid’s forward line, with Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface among his top targets. Alonso, who is expected to replace Carlo Ancelotti as the head coach next season, is focused on strengthening the attack. Boniface, currently with Bayer Leverkusen, has been in fine form, scoring 11 goals in all competitions this season despite struggling with injuries. His performances have earned him interest from several top clubs, including Juventus, who see him as a viable alternative to Napoli’s Victor Osimhen. Alonso, if appointed, has also expressed interest in his Leverkusen teammate, Patrik Schick, as well as Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres, though the latter’s €75m release clause could pose a financial challenge.
Despite a less-than-ideal season for Leverkusen, where they finished runners-up in the Bundesliga, Boniface’s individual performances have impressed many. He was named the Bundesliga’s Rookie of the Season and included in the official Team of the Year.
