Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the AC Milan striker, has announced his retirement from football at the age of 41.

He made the announcement on the San Siro pitch after his club’s final game of the Serie A season.

Ibrahimovic, a Sweden international, expressed his gratitude to the Milan fans and team-mates, saying that he would be a Milan fan for life.

He has spent most of the season on the sidelines due to injury, playing just four times for Milan and scoring once.

Ibrahimovic began his career at Malmo and had spells with Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona, Paris St Germain, Manchester United, and LA Galaxy before returning to the San Siro.

He is Sweden’s all-time top scorer with 62 goals in 122 matches.
