Protests have erupted in Lagos as members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) express their dissatisfaction with the removal of petrol subsidy.

The protesters have gathered at the Ikeja under-bridge in Lagos, demanding that the federal government reverse its “anti-poor” and “insensitive” policies.

The NLC has called on civil society organizations and its councils across the states to join in a nationwide rally on August 2 to protest the high cost of living in the country.

Despite efforts by the government to prevent the strike and protest, they have been unsuccessful.

The removal of the petrol subsidy, announced by President Bola Tinubu in his inaugural address, has resulted in increased fuel prices, transportation costs, and inflation.

In response, Tinubu has outlined palliatives to alleviate the impact of the subsidy removal on the masses.
