Nigeria Labour Congress Rejects Planned 40% Electricity Tariff Hike

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has strongly opposed the proposed 40% increase in electricity tariff, warning that it would worsen the current hardship faced by ordinary Nigerians.

The NLC has called for the plan to be shelved for the collective good and safety of Nigerians.

The NLC President, Mr Joe Ajaero, stated that the proposed hike is not justified by the recent increase in the pump price of premium motor spirit (PMS), inflation, or exchange rate.

He added that the issue of capacity to pay and quality of service delivery are more important than market logic.

The NLC has called for more interventions to cushion the effect of these tariff hikes on the majority of Nigerians and has advised that the proposed tariff hike should be shelved for the collective safety of the people.
