Tensions continue to rise within Nigeria’s opposition ranks as confusion clouds the role of Atiku Abubakar in the emerging All Democratic Alliance (ADA), NaijNaira can report.
DAILY POST revealed the ADA is being discussed as a possible political platform by prominent figures like Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, and Rotimi Amaechi ahead of the 2027 elections.
The group has not formally adopted any party, despite earlier reports claiming ADA had been locked in.
El-Rufai made it clear during an interview on Arise TV that, “I strongly believe that the SDP is the best platform for a coalition; its history, its legacy, its sentimental value, and everything about it are almost perfect.”
However, INEC says ADA hasn’t yet met the required registration standards. Sam Olumekun from INEC’s Voter Education Committee confirmed this in Abuja on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Atiku’s digital media aide, Demola Olarenwaju, firmly denied the former Vice President’s involvement in the ADA formation.
A close political associate of Atiku added, “When you reduce it to Atiku, what you are doing is that you are intentionally trying to create bad blood between the coalition partners.”
Earlier rumors of the African Democratic Congress being adopted as the coalition’s official party have also been debunked.
Human rights lawyer Maduabuchi Idam weighed in, saying, “There should be a limit to excuses for underperformance. Enough has been given already.”
As pressure mounts, key players in the opposition say more clarity will come soon. For now, the future of the ADA — and who backs it — remains uncertain.
