The struggle for the Awujale throne in Ijebuland has taken a new turn as the Adeyemi family raised concerns over their alleged removal from the Anikilaya ruling line – www.naijnaira.com reports.
In a statement released on Sunday, Adedeji Ademola Adeyemi said some relatives attempted to erase their place in history by sidelining them from the Anikilaya dynasty, according to Punch.
He argued that Adeyemi Anikilaya was the first son of Oba Anikilaya Saagun, while Ogbagba and Ademolu were his younger brothers.
The family recalled that after Oba Daniel Adesanya Gbelegbuwa II died in 1959, Prince Ademola Aiyegbajeje Adeyemi was offered the stool but declined.
Following that decision, his younger brother Mubashiru Adedipupo Adeyemi presented his son, Sikiru Kayode Adetona, who became Awujale in 1960.
The Adeyemis dismissed the inclusion of Mabadeje, Adekoya Ofirigidi, and Adeire Adeewu as “false claims,” stressing that only descendants of Adeyemi Anikilaya remain legitimate heirs.
