Lyle Menendez, convicted alongside his younger brother Erik for the 1989 murders of their parents in Beverly Hills, has been denied parole in California – www.naijnaira.com reports.
According to Sky News, the ruling came only 24 hours after Erik Menendez faced the same rejection from a separate parole panel.
The commissioners concluded Lyle would need to wait three more years before applying again, despite a psychologist finding he posed a “very low” risk of violence if released.
During the hearing, Lyle wept as he told the board, “I will never be able to make up for the harm and grief I caused everyone in my family. I am so sorry.”
He admitted to years of physical abuse by his father, adding, “I was the special son in my family… the physical abuse was focused on me because I was more important to him.”
Lyle also described buying the murder weapons as “the biggest mistake,” saying he once believed his parents intended to kill him and his brother.
Despite family support, including testimony from his aunt expressing love and belief in him, the board ruled his release could still endanger the public.
