On May 22, a box truck crashed into security barriers on Lafayette Square near the White House grounds in Washington, DC.
The driver was detained by authorities and the truck was deemed safe by District of Columbia police.
The US Secret Service stated that charges would be filed by US Park Police with investigative support from the Secret Service.
There were no injuries to any Secret Service or White House personnel, and the cause and manner of the crash remain under investigation.
The driver may have intentionally struck the security barriers, according to a tweet by Anthony Guglielmi, chief of communications for the US Secret Service.
Some roads and pedestrian walkways around the park were closed, and the nearby Hay Adams hotel was evacuated at the request of the Secret Service.
The Washington Fire Department received a call for a suspicious package investigation and stood by to assist law enforcement.
The incident was also assisted by the Washington Metro Police.
