Wolverhampton Wanderers are finalising a €20 million deal to sign Nigerian forward Christantus Uche from Getafe, with an announcement expected soon — www.naijnaira.com reports.
According to Soccernet.ng, Getafe accepted Wolves’ bid on Sunday, ending weeks of speculation over Uche’s future in Spain.
Coach Jose Bordalas did not hide his anger at the decision, calling Uche “a vital player for us, extremely important,” while adding, “Every season we cannot start from scratch.”
The Spanish manager argued that losing his best performer would leave the club “with a huge, serious problem,” insisting Getafe cannot always “be at the mercy of this.”
Uche, 24, has been central to Bordalas’ plans since last season, delivering key performances that kept the team competitive.
Getafe, however, are battling financial constraints and needed the €20 million to register players under La Liga’s strict financial rules.
The sale will also allow them to bring in one or two budget reinforcements before the transfer window closes.
For Uche, the move represents a major step forward, giving him exposure to the Premier League and a significant salary upgrade from his current €90,000 yearly earnings.
The Nigerian forward even played in Getafe’s game against Sevilla on Monday, showing his commitment despite knowing a transfer was imminent.
At Wolves, Uche will link up with higher-profile teammates and work under a top-level coach, making this switch a career-defining opportunity.
