Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has approved the compensation payment for owners of houses and properties demolished by Amosun’s administration during the expansion of some road projects across the state.
The approval of the compensation payment was made known on Monday and it was stated that it’s meant to ameliorate the sufferings of those affected.
Amosun, during his eight years in office embarked on a massive demolition of properties across the state – an act that paved the way for the expansion of some roads to as many as 8-lanes without paying compensation to the affected owners.
In addition, it was double jeopardy as many of the roads were abandoned midway through the construction process, while others did not take off at all.
The state’s Commissioner for Works, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, who spoke on the issue on the weekend, said the governor has approved the compensation payment, which will be in phases.
Akinsanya noted that the demolitions carried out by Amosun’s administration were unnecessary, adding that they ended up compounding the problems being faced by the present government.
According to him, the state government now has billions of compensation claims to contend with in addition to looking for another huge sum of money to complete the abandoned roads.
He further revealed that Abiodun administration inherited an outstanding debt of N202billion from the Amosun government on roads alone.
Akinsanya also said the state government has decided on the policy of no demolition in its project execution, except where necessary and unavoidable.
