YouTube has announced that it will be shutting down its Stories feature on June 26th.
Originally a feature on Snapchat, YouTube added Stories to its app but has now decided to focus on Communities and Shorts instead.
The company stated in a blog post that “Community posts and YouTube Shorts are great alternatives that can deliver valuable audience connections and conversations.”
Only mobile devices could use YouTube Stories, and the videos were automatically deleted after seven days.
YouTube’s distinct style compared to other social media platforms made the addition of Stories less innovative and logical for users.
The company will now invest in new and innovative tools to help creators grow their audiences across YouTube, including Community posts, Shorts, live streams, and long-form content.
Stories were first introduced by Snapchat and have since been adopted by many social media platforms, including Meta’s Facebook and Instagram.
