The Federal Government has provided an update on the ongoing consultations regarding the plan to reopen Nigeria’s land borders. This announcement comes as reports indicate a drop in the prices of commodities such as rice, sugar, and others. The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Comptroller-General, Adewale Adeniyi, stated that stakeholders are discussing the issues that led to the closure of the borders.
Consultations with Neighboring Countries
In order to move forward with the reopening of the land borders, the Federal Government is engaging in discussions with officials from neighboring countries. Adeniyi mentioned that he is in communication with his counterparts in the Niger and Benin Republics. These consultations aim to address the problems that caused the borders to close and ensure that similar events do not occur in the future.
The National Single Window Project
During the launch of the National Single Window Project, Adeniyi expressed his appreciation for President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to safeguard Nigeria’s economy.
He also spoke of the importance of commitment and strong will in the successful implementation of projects like the single window initiative. Adeniyi is a member of the Presidential Steering Committee responsible for overseeing the project’s implementation.
The consultations for reopening the land borders are already underway, with high-level discussions taking place. Adeniyi has engaged with his colleagues in the Benin Republic and has visited the borders with the Niger Republic.
