A driver named Jonathan Marcus has been arrested by the police for the brutal murder of an 80-year-old man, Adebola Ezekiel, and his wife, Abiodun, in their apartment in the Apo area of Abuja. The couple was found dead in their home after being attacked by assailants who used daggers to slit their throats.
Marcus, who had been driving the couple for 10 years, confessed to the crime and revealed his motive. He claimed that the elderly man’s behavior towards him and the lack of adequate compensation drove him to commit the heinous act. Marcus, who worked as a mechanic, said that his job was severely affected by his role as a driver for the couple. He often had to accompany them to hotels, leaving his own customers waiting.
Despite his complaints, the man refused to increase his salary or provide any financial assistance. Feeling frustrated and ignored, Marcus decided to quit driving for the couple. However, the man accused him of being wicked and insisted that Marcus was the only driver he trusted.
This confrontation escalated the tension between them, leading Marcus to carry out the gruesome act. Using a knife, Marcus killed the elderly couple and fled the scene with the man’s ATM card and wallet. He attempted to withdraw money but was unsuccessful.
Police detectives eventually tracked him down and arrested him in his hideout in Kogi State. The Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh, also revealed that the police had made other significant arrests.
Two suspects were apprehended for alleged culpable homicide in the Mabushi area of Abuja, and nine suspected armed robbers were arrested in a separate operation.
The police have recovered several weapons and ammunition from the suspects. All the arrested individuals will face charges once the investigations are concluded.
