Alexander Isak capitalized on a poor pass from Benoit Badiashile, rolling the ball past Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen.
Almost immediately, Isak’s cross deflected off Christopher Nkunku, was flicked on by Joe Willock, and ended up in Chelsea’s net due to a mishap from Axel Disasi.
The home side had threatened early on, with Anthony Gordon’s square ball to Joelinton hitting the post when it should have resulted in a goal.
Chelsea’s defense was shaky throughout, and while Joao Felix showed some promise with two shots, he was frustrated as his teammates struggled to support him.
Newcastle continued to apply pressure, with Willock missing a chance just before halftime, William Osula hitting the post, and Sean Longstaff having a goal disallowed for offside.
Chelsea now shifts its focus back to the Premier League, preparing to face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
