Favour Ofili delivered a sensational performance over the weekend at the Adidas Atlanta City Games, clocking an astonishing 15.85 seconds in the women’s 150m straight race. Her time smashed the previous world best of 16.23 seconds set in 2018 by Shaunae Miller-Uibo and made Ofili the first woman ever to break the 16-second barrier.

According to report, United States sprinter Tamari Davis finished second in 16.14s, followed by Ashanti Moore of Jamaica in third place with 16.50s.

Meanwhile, Nigerian long jump star Ese Brume returned to form with a season-best leap of 6.70 meters, catapulting her to the top of the 2025 African rankings. She previously sat at 13th place this season with 6.14m, but her new mark surpasses both Esraa Owis of Egypt and Nigeria’s Prestina Ochonogor, who had each jumped 6.67m earlier this year.

Brume’s mark was good enough for a fourth-place finish at the event, but it moves her ahead of all other African jumpers so far this year. Speaking about her leap, Brume said:

“It’s been a long build-up. I’m happy the work is starting to show.”

Other Nigerian athletes also posted strong results in Atlanta. Reigning world champion hurdler Tobi Amusan ran 12.53 seconds in the 100m hurdles semifinals with wind assistance. She placed behind Keni Harrison of the U.S., who clocked 12.44s. Amusan did not participate in the final, which Harrison won in another wind-aided time of 12.30s.

In the men’s 100m, Udodi Onwuzurike ran a wind-aided 10.05s, finishing second to South Africa’s Akani Simbine, who won in 9.86s with a 2.3m/s tailwind.
