Manchester United are weighing up moves for two high-profile forwards after losing out on Liam Delap to Chelsea.

According to GIVEMESPORT, the Red Devils have shifted their attention to Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta and Paris Saint-Germain forward Randal Kolo Muani. Both players are viewed as realistic targets as Ruben Amorim looks to reshape his attacking line this summer.

Chelsea secured Delap by triggering the £30m relegation clause in his Ipswich Town contract, leaving United to consider other cost-effective options. With interest cooling in more expensive targets like Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen, and Benjamin Sesko, United’s recruitment team is now focused on Mateta and Kolo Muani.

Crystal Palace forward leads the shortlist

Jean-Philippe Mateta is understood to be United’s priority. The 27-year-old netted 17 goals across all competitions during the 2024-25 campaign and recently helped Crystal Palace lift the FA Cup. His contract, extended by the club until 2027, would still allow a summer transfer for a reported £40m.

“Mateta proved his ability to deliver in the Premier League this season and remains high on United’s radar,” one insider reportedly said.

Kolo Muani also in the frame after Juventus loan

Randal Kolo Muani, meanwhile, is expected to return to PSG following a loan at Juventus. He contributed eight goals and two assists during his Serie A spell, but is unlikely to be part of PSG’s long-term plans despite being under contract until 2028.

United believe a deal could be agreed for £35m, with Juventus not planning to pursue a permanent transfer. The Frenchman previously impressed at Eintracht Frankfurt and remains a player with proven European experience.

Amorim pushing for reinforcements

Ruben Amorim is thought to be eager to finalise a new striker signing ahead of the new season. Matheus Cunha, recently brought in for £62.5m, is expected to play a key role behind the forward line. However, Amorim has asked the board to secure another proven finisher before pre-season begins.

As the club assesses Mateta and Kolo Muani, Manchester United’s transfer strategy continues to reflect a balance between Premier League experience and affordability — a trend likely to persist throughout the summer window.
