Former Manchester United striker Alan Brazil has called on the club to quickly move for Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen after Viktor Gyokeres turned down a transfer to Old Trafford, NaijNaira can report.

Soccernet.ng revealed that Manchester United had focused on Gyokeres following his outstanding season at Sporting CP. The Swedish striker scored 39 league goals and 54 goals in total, leading Sporting to both the Primeira Liga and Taca de Portugal titles.

Recent reports now suggest Gyokeres is keen on joining Arsenal, which has left Manchester United searching for new striker options. Brazil believes Victor Osimhen is the right fit to fill the gap.

Osimhen recently delivered a remarkable season on loan at Galatasaray, where he scored 37 goals and provided seven assists in 41 matches. Despite losing his place at Napoli, he played a vital role in their 2022/23 Serie A title win, scoring 26 goals.

Speaking on talkSPORT via Football Insider, Brazil said, “At one stage he (Osimhen) was magnificent at Napoli, wasn’t he? Maybe he needs a move to rekindle his enthusiasm and start scoring goals again. He can head the ball. Why not? Why wouldn’t you take the chance? 26 is no age.”

Manchester United’s need for a reliable striker has become critical after finishing 15th in the Premier League last season. Osimhen, who is Nigeria’s second-highest all-time scorer, has turned down offers from Saudi clubs to continue playing in Europe.

United are also considering Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt as a possible alternative.
