Senator Barau I. Jibrin has firmly shut down calls from a northern youth group urging President Bola Tinubu to pick him as running mate for the 2027 election, NaijNaira can report.
The Deputy Senate President addressed the matter through a statement by his media adviser, Ismail Mudashir, as reported by Daily Trust. He asked the Northern Nigeria Progressive Youth Assembly (NNPYA) to end their campaigns and instead throw their full support behind Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“My attention has been drawn to various posts on social media and in national dailies urging President Tinubu to select me as his running mate come 2027,” Barau said. “This is out of place at this moment and not in our best interest.”
He advised all supporters to stay focused on the present and work with the president to tackle the country’s challenges.
“If you are truly my supporters, please, desist from this unnecessary clamour,” he urged. “Join the train to restore the glorious days of our country under President Tinubu.”
Barau, who also serves as the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, reaffirmed his loyalty to Tinubu’s leadership and warned that premature political agitation could distract from real progress.
He emphasized that Tinubu remains committed to delivering on his promises and transforming the nation’s fortunes.
“This is not the time for political distractions,” he said. “Let’s all support the president and stay focused on rebuilding our country.”
