Stanley Nwabali remains optimistic about Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite a rough start in the qualifiers, NaijNaira can report.

The Chippa United goalkeeper told Brila that while expectations are high due to Nigeria’s reputation, success will come from unity, not individual brilliance.

“Being Nigeria doesn’t mean we’re guaranteed to win every game,” Nwabali said. “We still have chances to qualify. We’re taking each game seriously and focusing on getting results.”

The Super Eagles have only one win from six qualifiers but still have four crucial matches ahead. They currently sit six points behind group leaders South Africa.

Nigeria will face South Africa and Rwanda in September—two must-win games that could turn the tide in their qualification campaign.

Nwabali, who has started every World Cup qualifier so far, believes belief and discipline will be key.

“We’re going to push in our next game, take it one game at a time, and see how our next four games go,” he added.

The former Enyimba goalkeeper has grown into a key figure since AFCON 2024 and continues to attract attention, despite criticism from some circles.

Nigeria’s path to the World Cup is far from over, but the stakes have never been higher.

Victory over South Africa could inject fresh momentum into a campaign desperate for a spark.

Eyes will be on coach Finidi George’s tactical approach as the team heads into a defining stretch.
