The federal government is open to negotiating the release of Nnamdi Kanu, according to Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, who shared this during a press briefing in Lagos, NaijNaira can report.

Speaking with reporters on Friday, Umahi clarified that discussions about Kanu’s release should not be tied to political demands or support from the South-East. According to Premium Times, the minister emphasized that President Tinubu had no role in Kanu’s detention and should not be held responsible for it.

“His matter is not a condition for the South-East to support the president,” Umahi said. “We are willing to negotiate his release, but no one should make it a condition because the president did not put him there.”

He described President Bola Tinubu as a responsive and pragmatic leader. “President Tinubu may not be perfect, but he is doing most things right,” Umahi noted. “The international community has confidence in his reforms. That is why we are getting support for our projects.”

Umahi rejected claims that the South-East has been sidelined, saying Tinubu has offered more inclusion than previous administrations. “The South-East now has a voice at the centre. We will not return to Egypt,” he added.

He ruled out any presidential ambition in 2027, pledging full loyalty to Tinubu. “I will not run. I will work for my boss, President Tinubu,” Umahi said.

He urged South-East leaders to collaborate beyond party lines and back the federal government’s push for development.
