Peter Obi says he’s teaming up with politicians from previous administrations not because he ignores their failures, but because their insights can help fix the system, NaijNaira can report.
During a recent interview on Channels TV’s Sunday Politics, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate responded to criticism over his involvement in a new opposition coalition. Some critics are unhappy that the group includes political figures associated with past failed governments.
According to News, Obi argued that having people who’ve seen where things went wrong is valuable for Nigeria’s future.
“These are people who can tell you what didn’t work and why,” Obi said. “One of the world’s top companies hired two people from failed firms because they could explain what went wrong. You need people who’ve failed and succeeded to move forward.”
Obi made it clear he’s not shutting the door on anyone. He believes experience—good or bad—is crucial in reshaping governance.
“I need everyone,” he said. “Their experience is critical. They know what can break a system and what already did.”
He also dismissed rumors about being in talks with Atiku Abubakar for a joint presidential ticket in 2027.
Obi confirmed that he’ll be running for president in 2027, but said no such discussions with Atiku have taken place.
The former Anambra governor appears focused on building a broad-based coalition that, in his view, combines past lessons with a future-forward approach.
