President Bola Tinubu has named a 17-member inter-ministerial committee to oversee preparations for the state funeral of former President Muhammadu Buhari, NaijNaira can report. The committee will handle all necessary arrangements to ensure a formal and dignified ceremony.
According to Daily Independent, Tinubu appointed Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, as chairman of the planning committee. The list includes top cabinet members and key security officials tasked with managing the event’s logistics and protocols.
Those selected include the Ministers of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Defence, Information, Works, Interior, and the FCT. Others are from Housing, Health, Art and Culture, along with the National Security Adviser, Inspector General of Police, DSS Director-General, and Chief of Defence Staff.
The committee also includes presidential aides on policy and political matters. The General Services Office under the Office of the Secretary to the Government will serve as the secretariat.
President Tinubu instructed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to open condolence registers at their entrances for public tribute.
Additionally, a central condolence register will be available for the diplomatic corps and general public at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
