A Federal High Court in Abuja has remanded popular TikTok creator Gabriel Timothy, also known as Tumma, in Kuje Prison over allegations of defaming Nollywood star Regina Daniels and her husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, NaijNaira can report.
Sahara Reporters confirmed that Tumma was charged with defamation, cyberstalking, and spreading false information after accusing Regina Daniels of extramarital affairs in a viral video.
In court on Wednesday, Tumma’s legal counsel, S.M. Oyeghe, urged the judge to grant bail, arguing that the accusations are bailable and that his client deserves liberty under the law.
“We are only asking that our client be granted bail on liberal terms,” Oyeghe said during proceedings.
Justice Yilwa H. Joseph, however, postponed the decision on the bail application until July 25.
Prosecutors objected to Tumma’s request, claiming he failed to show valid reasons for temporary release.
Ned Nwoko stated, “There is no democracy anywhere in the world where freedom of speech includes freedom to defame, blackmail, or incite hatred under the guise of online influence.”
The case has sparked mixed reactions online, with some backing Regina Daniels’ legal pursuit and others questioning whether the backlash is too extreme for a social media post.
