Videos of 2Baba’s wedding ceremony with Natasha Osawaru surfaced this week, and the internet hasn’t stopped talking — www.naijnaira.com reports.

The viral footage, filled with elaborate cultural attire and traditional Benin rituals, stirred both admiration and debate, particularly about his marriage history.

According to Punch, questions began emerging after observers pointed out the singer had publicly confirmed his separation from Annie Macaulay just earlier this year.

The legal status of that separation, however, has now taken center stage, with some wondering whether a formal divorce was finalized under the Marriage Act.

A legal practitioner, Oluwatodimu Ige, clarified, “Without a court-issued dissolution, any new marriage under the Act is considered void and may amount to bigamy.”

He emphasized that marriages conducted in a court or licensed religious institution must be legally dissolved before either party can remarry.

Ige noted that traditional marriages follow different rules, adding, “Customary law may allow multiple wives if it aligns with accepted traditions.”

He warned that any attempt to remarry without formally ending a civil marriage could trigger legal consequences under Nigerian criminal law.

Professor Taiwo Osipitan (SAN) backed this view, noting that an “introduction” doesn’t equal marriage unless all customary steps are fully completed.

He added, “Unless the bride price is paid and there is formal handover by the family, it cannot qualify as a full customary marriage.”

Both legal experts stressed that misunderstanding these distinctions could lead to unintended violations of the law.

The situation has left many asking whether 2Baba’s traditional wedding was ceremonial or legally binding — and if his divorce from Annie was ever finalized.

As speculation continues, the issue sits at the intersection of law, culture, and celebrity status, with public opinion split.
