Adekunle Gold has opened up about writing a song for Beyoncé in 2019, a moment that carried deep personal weight for him — www.naijnaira.com reports.
The Nigerian star revealed during an interview that the opportunity came right after his father’s passing, a period he described as one of the hardest chapters of his life.
He explained that Beyoncé’s team had reached out while working on her Lion King: The Gift project, giving him a chance to submit material for consideration.
“Out of that pain, I wrote Simile,” Gold shared, describing how grief pushed him back into the studio despite not feeling ready.
The singer admitted he secretly wished the song would not make the final cut, as the emotions tied to it were overwhelming.
Years passed without the track being released, until his collaborator Michael played it again in 2024, reminding him of its meaning.
Gold said the resurfacing of the song was a moment of clarity, a reminder of his faith and resilience in difficult times.
He has now included Simile on his new album Fuji, hoping the track will comfort people experiencing grief.
“Grief isn’t just about losing a parent. It can be the loss of a dream, a relationship, or even yourself,” he said.
According to him, music has always been a source of healing, and he wants his listeners to feel less alone through his work.
