AGF Malami moves to Dismiss Suit challenging CBN Directive to discontinue Old N200, N500 & N1000 Notes

The Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has filed a motion to have a suit challenging the CBN’s directive to discontinue old N200, N500, and N1000 notes dismissed.

This comes after the Supreme Court of Nigeria granted an ex parte motion filed by the governments of Kaduna, Kogi and Zamfara states earlier this month that would delay the discontinuation of these notes until February 15th, with the state of Rivers set to join in as well.

However, AGF counsels Mahmud Magaji and Tijanni Gazali (SAN) contend that since this issue is not against the Federal Republic of Nigeria, it should be at the Federal High Court level rather than fall into supreme court jurisdiction.

As such, they are asking for it to be struck out due to incorrect jurisdiction.
