On Friday, the Supreme Court declared former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District election.
This ruling overturned an earlier judgement made by the Court of Appeal that invalidated Akpabio’s nomination.
The apex court held that it is the responsibility of a political party to nominate a candidate and not under the jurisdiction of external agencies.
The Supreme Court panel thus quashed the November 14th judgement from Court of Appeal in Abuja, impliedly recognizing Akpabio has being APC’s valid choice for Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial contest.
