During an event in New York, Al Pacino revealed that he had originally been offered the role of Han Solo in the Star Wars franchise before Harrison Ford became known globally for the character.
Pacino joked that he turned down the role and instead gave Ford a career.
While Pacino’s alternative choice, the 1977 romance drama Bobby Deerfield, was poorly received by critics, he went on to star in other classics such as Scarface, Carlito’s Way, and Donnie Brasco.
Meanwhile, Ford landed his career-defining role as Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark and will reprise the iconic role in the forthcoming Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, premiering in cinemas on 30 June.
In order to maintain continuity with the original trilogy, Ford will feature digitally de-aged.
