Airtel Nigeria has recently introduced the Embedded Subscriber Identity Module (eSIM) to reduce the cost and effort of having multiple SIM cards in mobile devices, whilst still being able to access all the functions that a physical SIM card would offer.
The eSIM is quick and simple to set up online, making it an ideal choice for those who need two phone numbers but do not want to have two different handsets.
Also, it is much kinder on the environment as it produces zero carbon emissions and does not involve any plastic in its manufacturing process.
To make use of this service, customers must have a compatible device where they can dial *#06# which will provide them with QR code that is required for their activation process.
After this, an Airtel service personnel will guide them through switching their current physical SIM card for the eSIM one.
According to Femi Oshinlaja, the Acting Chief Commercial Officer for Airtel Nigeria, the introduction of the eSIM will help Airtel achieve its goals of creating better digital inclusion and offering sustainable solutions that are both innovative and environmentally friendly.
