Atletico Madrid delivered a dominant 6-0 win over struggling Sparta Prague in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The victory moved Diego Simeone’s side to nine points from five matches, while Sparta remains on four points.
Julian Alvarez opened the scoring in the 15th minute, curling a free-kick into the top corner after being fouled just outside the box.
Marcos Llorente doubled Atletico’s lead just before halftime, as his chipped shot was misjudged by Sparta goalkeeper Peter Vindahl, who was distracted by a glancing header attempt from Alexander Sorloth.
Alvarez added his second goal in the 59th minute, finishing from close range after a quick give-and-go with Giuliano Simeone.
Antoine Griezmann made it 4-0 in the 70th minute with a low shot inside the box following a one-two with Llorente.
Angel Correa, who came on as a substitute, scored twice in the final five minutes.
His first goal came after he poked in a pass from Samuel Lino, and he completed the scoring with a tidy finish following a solo run through Sparta’s defence.
This was Atletico’s second consecutive away victory in the competition, having previously defeated Paris Saint-Germain 2-1.
Atletico’s next match is at home against Slovan Bratislava on December 10, as they look to extend their winning run in the new league format.
