Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra and the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has been making waves with his criticisms of President Bola Tinubu.
In a recent interview on Arise TV, Obi boldly stated that he could have done better than Tinubu. He didn’t hold back, calling out Nigeria’s leadership for being filled with people who allegedly have criminal pasts and unverified academic credentials.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) wasn’t quiet in response. In fact, they quickly fired back, questioning Obi’s own claims. Felix Morka, the APC spokesperson, made a sharp point: “Mr Obi’s favourite retort, ‘I would have done better as president,’ must be a symptom of a protracted bout of election failure-induced hangover.”
The party didn’t stop there. They reminded Obi of his time as Anambra’s governor, saying that his administration left behind a trail of issues: economic stagnation, poor infrastructure, environmental disasters, and even religious tensions.
However, the APC chose not to respond to Obi’s comments about Tinubu’s past, particularly the allegations involving criminal records and certificate controversies. Instead, they maintained focus on defending their policies and initiatives.
According to a report by The Guardian, while Obi continues to raise concerns about Nigeria’s democracy, the APC sees his criticism as misplaced, especially considering his own track record in Anambra.
