Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, believes that those working to undermine democracy by trying to buy votes are claiming to oppose the CBN’s Naira redesign.
He urged the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) not to postpone the swap of old notes with new ones any further.
The most recent extension granted by the CBN allowed more people in rural areas, and ordinary people throughout the country, to exchange their naira for new currency.
Prospects for alleviating these issues were taken into consideration, such as printing more notes and initiating measures so those who need them can access them easily.
Atiku argued that though there may be slight inconveniences related to this policy change, it will benefit the country in both short-term and long-term ways.
It could reduce illicit funds from entering our economy, provide a way to deter drug money circulation and aid anti-corruption efforts.
Despite anti-democratic attempts against it, Atiku stands firmly behind its implementation and urges CBN and the government not to cave under pressure from its detractors.
