Former Nigerian Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar, has responded to a call by a group of protesters asking him and his counterpart in the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, not to leave Nigeria for Dubai after the election.
In a statement to newsmen, Atiku’s Special Assistant on Communications, Phrank Shaibu, criticized the group, The Natives, for their sponsored protest, adding that Atiku did not owe the group an explanation of his travel itinerary.
He also stated that the former Vice President would decide if he wants to stay in the country or leave for Dubai.
The Convener of The Natives, Smart Edward, had urged Atiku, Obi, and other candidates not to abandon the country following their loss in the presidential election, saying that their talents, ability, and contributions are needed for the development of Nigeria.
Edward asked the candidates not to embark on exile out of frustration, describing it as a trademark of any politician who is just an opportunist.
Shaibu, however, asked the group to call on the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, to return to the country.
He pointed out that Tinubu, who was declared the winner of the election, was nowhere to be found, and his whereabouts should be a concern for the protesters.
