Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has denied any involvement in an audio purportedly discussing rigging plans with Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
Through a statement from his Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku condemned the audio as fake and alleged that it was part of APC’s and LP’s desperate attempts to rig the election.
Shaibu also highlighted Atiku’s history of not being indicted for vote rigging or violence.
Furthermore, he questioned why Tambuwal had referred to Atiku by his full name rather than casually in an assumedly private conversation.
In the end, Atiku encouraged his supporters not to engage in propaganda battles but instead directed police and INEC to pursue those behind this audio according to Section 123(c) of Electoral Act which imposes heavy penalties for anyone making false claims against a candidate.
