Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has revealed details of his contentious departure from Arsenal, shedding light on a turbulent relationship with manager Mikel Arteta.

Despite signing a contract extension just 18 months before leaving in February 2022, Aubameyang found himself sidelined after a fallout with Arteta.

The situation escalated when Aubameyang returned late from a pre-approved trip to visit his sick mother, prompting Arteta to accuse him of betrayal.

Aubameyang explained that he had received permission from Arteta for the trip due to personal reasons, but upon his return, he faced harsh criticism and was subsequently isolated from the team.

Arteta even stripped him of the captaincy and banned him from training with the squad.

Despite attempts to resolve the situation, including a final meeting where Arteta expressed his desire to use Aubameyang as an example to the team, their relationship remained strained.

Aubameyang ultimately left Arsenal for Barcelona, then had a brief stint at Chelsea before finding stability at Marseille.

In response to Aubameyang’s revelations, Arteta maintained that he had acted in the best interests of the club and saw himself as the solution rather than the problem in their relationship.

Since joining Marseille, Aubameyang has flourished, recently becoming the all-time leading goal scorer in Europa League history.
