Awoniyi Keen to Stay in Premier League Amid Forest Exit Rumors

Nigerian forward Taiwo Awoniyi has indicated he wants to continue playing in the English Premier League, despite growing speculation that he could leave Nottingham Forest during the upcoming transfer window.

According to Soccernet.ng, the 27-year-old addressed recent rumors while speaking on Humble Boots, making it clear that England remains his preferred destination—even as interest comes in from clubs across Europe.

“For me, it’s always the Premier League. My family, agent, everyone knows [that] it’s always the Premier League,” Awoniyi said.

Awoniyi’s time at Forest this season has been challenging. Injuries and competition for a starting spot—particularly from in-form striker Chris Wood—have limited his opportunities on the pitch. The former Union Berlin striker has scored just two goals in 31 appearances this campaign.

Still, Awoniyi has made it clear that interest from clubs in Spain and other leagues doesn’t appeal to him. In fact, he mentioned actively ignoring or blocking such approaches, reinforcing that any future move would need to keep him in English football.

Awoniyi joined Nottingham Forest in 2022 and played an important role in helping the club retain Premier League status in his debut season. With two years remaining on his current contract, he appears focused on staying in the league and fighting for a more prominent role—whether at Forest or elsewhere in the division.
