According to reports, FC Barcelona is considering a “swap deal” with Manchester United for Mason Greenwood as they search for a replacement for an unwanted forward.
Greenwood, the Englishman, joined La Liga side Getafe on loan during the 2023 summer transfer window after Manchester United deemed it a PR disaster to bring him back for the upcoming season.
Greenwood’s loan move came about after the case against him, involving charges of attempted rape and assault in 2023, was dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service due to the withdrawal of key witnesses.
Since joining Getafe, the 22-year-old has had an impressive season, contributing eight goals and six assists in his 29 appearances in La Liga.
Consequently, his form has attracted interest from several clubs across Europe, including FC Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and Juventus.
Reports suggest that Greenwood is unlikely to return to Manchester United, and the club is in a position to demand a substantial fee for the forward, as he is under contract until 2026.
While Manchester United would prefer to sell him, they are willing to allow him to remain on loan at Getafe if their asking price is not met.
Regarding FC Barcelona’s interest in Greenwood, it is rumored that they are willing to offer players to Manchester United in exchange for the England international.
Specifically, Barcelona is keen on bringing in Greenwood to replace Brazilian forward Vitor Roque, who joined the club in January.
However, Barcelona is also open to loaning Roque out this summer, although his representatives are pushing for a permanent move.
Roque, a 19-year-old who joined Barcelona from Brazilian outfit Athletico Paranaense, has had limited playing time since his debut in January.
As a result, Barcelona is reportedly looking to offload him during the summer transfer window.
Other clubs, including Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester United, and Napoli, have shown interest in signing Roque.
