Barcelona are close to signing goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, who is set to come out of retirement to replace Marc-Andre ter Stegen following a season-ending injury.
Ter Stegen ruptured the patella tendon in his right knee during Barcelona’s 5-1 victory over Villarreal in La Liga.
After successful surgery, he is expected to miss the rest of the 2024/25 season.
In response, Barcelona has decided to bring in the 34-year-old Szczesny on a one-year deal.
Szczesny, who retired last season after his contract with Juventus expired, is set to undergo medical tests before his move to the Catalan club is finalized.
Szczesny is seen as a smart short-term solution for Barcelona as they look to maintain their strong start to the season under manager Hansi Flick.
The Polish goalkeeper has extensive experience, having spent seven successful years with Juventus after stints at Arsenal and Roma.
