Bayern Munich is in mourning following the tragic passing of a supporter who attended Wednesday’s Champions League fixture against Benfica.
The fan was reported to have died while being transported to the hospital following a medical emergency at the Allianz Arena.
The atmosphere in the stadium was somber from the outset, as fans refrained from chanting or singing out of respect for the individual.
Shortly after kickoff, it became clear that medical assistance was needed, and paramedics and police were quickly on the scene.
Bayern’s supporters’ group, Club Nr. 12, issued a statement saying they would not “support as usual” due to the emergency, emphasizing that “life comes before sport.”
The game was marked by a moment of silence, with Bayern’s usual vociferous support from the Südkurve stand remaining muted.
The fan, who had been carried out on a stretcher around 30 minutes into the match, was later confirmed to have passed away on the way to the hospital.
Bayern’s players were unaware of the incident during the match, but midfielder Konrad Laimer expressed condolences afterward, saying, “We wish the family strength and best wishes, we’re thinking of all involved.”
Jamal Musiala’s 67th-minute header, assisted by Harry Kane, was the only goal of the game, securing Bayern’s second win of the group stage and ending a two-match losing streak.
