Deji Adeyanju, a socio-political activist, has advised the incoming administration of President-elect Bola Tinubu on how to appoint the next Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Adeyanju suggests that Tinubu’s administration should appoint a renowned economist with experience working with financial institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank as the next CBN governor.
He also urges the administration to stop appointing bankers as CBN governors, stating that they “know nothing about the economy” and are simply “mere marketers.”
Adeyanju’s advice comes after the CBN’s monetary policy during the election period affected Nigerians and almost scuttled Tinubu’s victory.
The current CBN governor, Emefiele, was appointed in 2014 and is expected to end his second tenure in 2024.
