The Supreme Court of Nigeria has granted an official ruling that old N200, N500, and N1000 notes will remain legal tender until December 31st.
Passed by a unanimous decision by a panel of seven justices, the apex court declared that existing banknotes should be used alongside redesigned currencies.
The ruling also criticized President Muhammadu Buhari for introducing demonization policies without conducting due consultation with relevant stakeholders such as the Council of States and Civil Society.
In addition, the apex court accused President Buhari of disregarding its interim order to halt the full implementation of a new monetary policy.
