The 2023 Population and Housing Census in Nigeria, which was originally scheduled for May 3-7, has been postponed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The decision was made after a meeting with the Chairman of National Population Commission, Nasir Isa Kwarra, due to the commission’s lack of necessary devices to carry out the census.

The census was previously postponed from March 27 to May 3 due to the gubernatorial elections.

The new date for the census will be determined by the incoming administration.

The commission requires up to 800,000 PADs for the census, but has only procured 500,000 so far.

Private sector and other key stakeholders are expected to donate funds for the census, but the process is ongoing and no money has been received yet.
