In a recent development, the federal government, led by President Bola Tinubu, has given its approval for a salary increase for staff members of all federal tertiary institutions.
The implementation of a 35% and 25% salary increment has been authorized, with arrears to be paid from January 1, 2023.
This decision was made by the Presidential Committee on Salaries during its 13th meeting, taking into account the collective bargaining stages and engagements between the Federal Ministry of Education and tertiary institution-based unions.
The approval includes a review of salary structures such as the Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS), Consolidated Tertiary Institution Salary Structure (CONTISS), Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS), and Consolidated University Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONUASS).
The confirmation of the salary increase was also stated in a memo from the Chairman/CEO of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, Ekpo U. Nta, addressed to the Honourable Minister of Education.
This salary increase will impact staff members in universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
