In a breaking development, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso has been expelled from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) by the party’s National Executive Committee.
This decision was made following his suspension by the party’s leadership at the National Convention on August 29 in Lagos.
As a result of the suspension, the NEC of NNPP set up a Disciplinary Committee and invited Kwankwaso to defend allegations of gross anti-party activities and mismanagement of party/campaign funds within five days. The committee warned that failure to appear before them would lead to his expulsion.
Unfortunately, Kwankwaso did not honor the committee’s invitations, leading to his immediate expulsion from NNPP. Mr. Abdulsalam Abdulrasaq, the Acting National Publicity Secretary of NNPP, confirmed the decision in a statement released on Tuesday in Lagos.
In addition to the expulsion, the NEC has decided to report Kwankwaso to the appropriate authorities to answer questions regarding financial impropriety related to the mismanagement of public funds.
This expulsion comes amidst a crisis within the NNPP, which began when the National Working Committee loyal to Kwankwaso announced the suspension of the NNPP founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, and the National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Agbo Major on August 24.
