Bruno Fernandes is one of four Portugal players released from international duty after their 5-1 victory over Poland in the Nations League.
Alongside Bernardo Silva, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Pedro Neto, Fernandes will return to his club, Manchester United, after Portugal secured top spot in League A, Group 1 with a game to spare.
Portugal’s next match, against Croatia, will see Fernandes miss out due to a one-match suspension following his third yellow card of the tournament.
Portugal coach Roberto Martinez confirmed the squad changes, explaining that with top spot already secured, the team would make adjustments ahead of their final group game.
Fernandes’ absence will allow new United manager Ruben Amorim, who took over earlier this month, to have more time to meet with his players.
Amorim is still awaiting his work visa but is expected to take charge of United’s next match after the international break.
Fernandes played 90 minutes and scored in the Poland game.
