Pochettino Outlines Transfer Targets in First Chelsea Press Conference

In his first press conference as Chelsea’s new manager, Mauricio Pochettino emphasized the club’s immediate priority of transfers.

He praised the efforts of Chelsea’s sporting directors in streamlining the squad by selling “uncommitted” players, including Mason Mount.

Pochettino expressed his excitement to be at Chelsea and stated that they will be adding more quality to the team.

“Of course, we have the quality, we are going to add more quality and I am excited to be here,” he said.

He added: “When I was outside and didn’t know about Chelsea, I was hearing different opinions about the squad being too big.

“Always it is always a fresh start with players, people come in, they go out some players. It was a really big squad last season and, normally, the club try to reduce the number of players. I trust in Paul and Laurence.

“I said ‘you know better than me’. But from day one, first of July, I will be more informed.”

He acknowledged that the squad was previously too big and trusts the sporting directors to make the necessary changes.

Pochettino also addressed Mount’s departure to Manchester United, stating that he is now a United player and he wants to focus on the players who are committed to the club’s success.

He also mentioned the need to build the squad and evaluate the players before deciding on the next captain.
