The African Music Awards has released its 2025 nominees list, and this year’s edition brings some of the biggest names in African music to the spotlight — www.naijnaira.com reports.
According to NAN, the organizers confirmed that 10,717 entries were received, the highest in the 12-year history of the awards.
After ten days of review, a 13-member international jury trimmed submissions into 343 nominations spread across 40 categories.
Burna Boy and Davido grabbed five nominations each, including nods for both Album of the Year and Song of the Year.
South Africa’s DJ Maphorisa and Morocco’s El Grande Toto matched them with five nominations apiece.
Senegal’s Mia Guissé and Ghanaian singer Moliy also received five nominations, signaling the growing visibility of female African artists.
Shallipopi, Amr Diab, Diamond Platnumz, Tyla, and Uncle Waffles each secured four spots on the list.
The diaspora category includes Aya Nakamura, DJ Snake, Darkoo, and gospel act Deborah Lukalu.
Public voting begins worldwide on September 10 and ends November 30.
AFRIMA 2025 will run from November 25 to 30 in Lagos, with events leading to the main award show, broadcast across 84 countries.
