There is a growing call for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to refuse to swear in Nasir El-Rufai as a Minister, even if he is approved by the Senate.
An Islamic coalition, representing Quranic memorisers and reciters, has issued a communique stating that El-Rufai’s nomination and screening by the National Assembly is seen as an injustice to the Muslim disciples, known as Almajiris, who were oppressed under his leadership as Governor of Kaduna State.
The coalition is demanding justice for the difficulties and trauma experienced by their pupils and teachers during El-Rufai’s tenure.
They urge President Tinubu to consider the plight of the oppressed and not succumb to pressure to swear in El-Rufai as a minister.
They emphasize that any government that prides itself on justice and fairness should not patronize someone who has oppressed the people.
The coalition hopes for a just resolution to the El-Rufai issue in the interest of peace.
